Our dedicated group of volunteers is made up of people from the IT sector, here to help older people with their tech during the Covid19 crisis.

We provide free over-the-phone and digital channel help to resolve your technical and connectivity issues

The Covid-19 Pandemic brought us a new awareness of others, their proximity and their condition. However, those we cannot see must also be considered, just as much

There are currently just over .75M older people (65+) on the island of Ireland, cocooning themselves, with extreme physical distancing and strict hygiene protocols when they are in physical contact with caregivers

This has led to an increase in the use of modern technologies by older people, as they purchase, and relatives and caregivers gift them with, smartphones, tablets, iPads, laptops and other smart devices. Older people may also hear about, but not have access to, communications software, social media services such as WhatsApp, Skype, Twitter and other services that could keep them in touch using that wide variety of devices now available to them.

However, the lack of physical contact, and the need for physical distancing means that older people had, and are still having, problems configuring and using these technologies and software services. Whilst the situation has become easier, it is not going to be “business as usual” for some time for older people. Even in normal times it is common that family members have difficulty finding the most appropriate ways to deal with some of the technical challenges their parents and grandparents need assistance with.

Covid19Tech was set up to address this gap, providing a free volunteer run over the phone service for older people in Ireland, to help them with their tech issues, so that they can stay in touch with their loved ones, be part of the digital community and share their wisdom and insight with us, as we help and protect them.

This service is for the over 65’s in Ireland
